Welcome! levaqin is a quinolone antibiotic used in adults as a lung , sinus , skin , and urinary tract infection treatment when such infections are caused by certain bacteria. levaqin kills many of the types of bacteria that can infect the lungs, sinuses, skin, and urinary tract and has been shown in a large number of clinical trials to be safe and effective for the treatment of many bacterial infections. levaqin is used to treat bacterial infections that cause bronchitis, pneumonia, chlamydia, gonorrhea, skin infections, urinary tract infections, and infections of the prostate. Indications To reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the effectiveness of levaqin and other antibacterial drugs, levaqin should be used only to treat or prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria. levaqin is indicated for the treatment of acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis. levaqin is indicated for the treatment of acute bacterial sinusitis. levaqin is indicated for the treatment of acute bacterial sinusitis. levaqin is indicated for the treatment of chronic bacterial prostatitis. levaqin is indicated for the treatment of complicated urinary tract infections. Dosage The usual dose of levaqin tablets or oral solution is 250 mg, 500 mg, or 750 mg administered orally every 24 hours. The usual dose of levaqin injection is 250 mg or 500 mg administered by slow infusion over 60 minutes every 24 hours or 750 mg administered by slow infusion over 90 minutes every 24 hours. levaqin tablets can be administered without regard to food.It is recommended that levaqin oral solution be taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating. Take levaqin with a full glass of water. Drink several extra glasses of fluid each day to prevent crystals from forming in the urine. Take levaqin on an empty stomach 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. levaqin can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. There are certain medicines you should not take within the 2 hours before or after you take levaqin. Taking these other medicines too close to your dose of levaqin can make the antibiotic much less effective. Measure the liquid form of levaqin with a special dose-measuring spoon or cup, not a regular table spoon. Take levaqin at evenly spaced intervals. Take this medication for the entire length of time prescribed by your doctor. |
